Major Historical Event

What major historical events do you remember?

There are so many historical events that I remember since I am born in the island of Mauritius which was then an underdeveloped country. Mauritius was first occupied by the French and was then known as Ile de France in September 1715.

They lost the island in a battle with the British.

By 1814,the island was occupied by Great Britain and renamed Mauritius 🇲🇺.

In 1968,I traveled to London with my British Passport to study Law in Lincoln’s Inn. In December, my father sent me a telegram to announce that Mauritius had won its independence and that the British rule was over.

I cried tears of joy.

The Princess and the Crow is my first storybook for children, released by Austin Macauley Publishers London in March 2019. Two years later, I was inspired to write and published two other books - WAKASHIO, a storybook for children, and PINK MOON - AN ANTHOLOGY OF HAIKU POEMS. I love to write. I guess my writing has a special cliché of island 🌴 life, natural, unpretentious, and full of beauty.

  1. The days of the empire and colonial rule are hardly something we can be proud about. I am so glad your island is free and glad you are enjoying life in England.

My first recollection is the death of George VI in 1952 from lung cancer, followed by a Coronation, then follow many others including the first moon landing and the bombing of the Twin Towers. Then there are numerous minor events including years in London before graduating when we were protesting against apartheid.
